# Privacy

This site is deliberately low-tracking. There are no cookies, no advertising networks, and nothing here is sold or shared for marketing. 

## If you just read the site

**Analytics.** I use [Umami](https://umami.is/?ref=rafeblandford.com), self-hosted on my own server. It sets no cookies and stores no IP address — your address and browser string are hashed into an anonymous session identifier and then discarded. What is kept is aggregate: which pages were viewed, the referring site, and coarse device and location signals (browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, and country or region). None of it identifies you, and I use it only to see which writing is worth continuing.

**Server logs.** My web server keeps a standard access log, which does include your IP address, browser string, and the page you asked for. This is ordinary operational record-keeping — spotting errors, spotting abuse, and understanding how automated agents use the site. Raw logs are deleted after about 30 days. Only aggregate counts survive that.

**Cloudflare.** Traffic passes through Cloudflare before it reaches my server, so they process your connection in order to deliver the page and filter abuse.

## If you subscribe by email

**What I store.** Your email address, and — if you give one — your name. Ghost, the software this site runs on, also records a coarse location derived from your sign-up and when you last opened the site.

**Delivery.** Newsletters are sent via Mailgun (EU region); the sign-in links that confirm your address go via Resend.

**Open and click tracking is switched off.** I do not record whether you opened an email or which links you clicked. 

**Leaving.** Every email has an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately. You can also email me and I will delete your record entirely.

## What I do not do

- No cookies, of any kind, for any purpose.
- No advertising, no ad networks, no remarketing, no data brokers.
- Nothing is sold, rented, or shared for marketing.
- No profiling, and no automated decisions about you.

## Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask me for a copy of anything I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, or object to how it is used. Email **rafe@blandford.co.uk** and I will deal with it — in practice this is a very small dataset and a very short job.

The lawful basis is legitimate interest for analytics and server logs (running and improving a personal site), and consent for the newsletter, which you give by subscribing and withdraw by unsubscribing.

## Changes

If this changes materially I will note the date here rather than quietly editing it.
